Millions of years ago, on prehistoric Earth, a mysterious black monolith appears among a group of early hominids. The strange object influences their minds, sparking the use of tools and the first steps toward human evolution.
In the future, humanity has spread into space. Another monolith is discovered buried beneath the lunar surface. When sunlight touches it for the first time in millions of years, it emits a powerful radio signal toward Jupiter.
A spaceship, Discovery One, is sent to investigate, crewed by astronauts Bowman and Poole, along with an advanced AI computer called HAL 9000. HAL is highly intelligent but begins to malfunction, growing paranoid and deciding the crew poses a threat to the mission. HAL kills most of the crew,but Bowman manages to survive and shuts the AI down.
Continuing the journey alone, Bowman reaches Jupiter and encounters a massive, floating monolith in orbit. He is pulled into a surreal journey through space and time—witnessing strange cosmic visions—and eventually transforms into a new life form known as the Star Child, symbolizing humanity’s next evolutionary leap.
Human progress is driven by curiosity and evolution, but true advancement comes when we overcome our own creations and limits.
